The Effect of Fruit Age and Media on Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) Somatic Embryo Induction

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of fruit age as source of mangosteen seed as explants in somatic embryo induction on in vitro culture. The research was conducted at Laboratory of Tissue Culture in Agronomy and Horticulture Department. The first experiment was arranged in a complete randomized two factorials. The first factor was three different media (MS,BS, and WPM). The second factor was three kinds of fruit age (1½, 2, and 2½ month after antesis). Each medium was supplemented with picloram 0,1 µM/L. The second experiment was arranged in a complete randomized one factor experiment. A factor was three different medium (MS, B5, and WPM). This experiment used 3 month old fruit age as source of seed. The result of this experiment showed that MS medium was the optimal media for embryogenic callus induction. Direct somatic embryo was formed on MS medium supplemented with 0,1 µM/L picloram with seed explant from fruit 2 % month old.
