Prevalence of beart disease in dogs was very higb aDd req uired ear ly diagnosis through physical examination, electrocardiogram, and echocardiography. Normal re ference valDes of echocardiograph)' are highly breedspecific and Deed for comparison and e\'aluation of dogs suspected with hea rt disease. Th('refor e the aim of t his study was to ('stablish normal reference echocardiographic \'alues for Indonesian monl!:rel dOl!:s, speci fi cally to find out intracardiac dim ension s, wall t hickness, and fra ctional sho rtening. Moti on-mode and two-d ime ns iona l ecbocardiography from right parasternal short axis and long axis view wer e performed on nine (' linicall )' h('althy dogs consisting of five males and four males. Tbe resu lts showed that wall thickn('ss and fr actional shor te Ding of Indonesia mongrel dogs were higher compared with thos(' in the other breed tbat have tbe same average weight. As opposite, the intracardiac dim('nsions and lumen dim ensions of aorta and left atrial diam('t('r wer(' smaller. These differences might occur due to factors other than the dog's habits and functions such as working and hunting ~ but can also be causrd by th e existence of breed differences. There was no signillcan t diff('rcnc(' between male and female dogs in terms of intracardiac dimension systole (P = 0.53), diastole (P = 0.38), fractional shortening (P = 0.053), and the ratio of aorta and left atrial diameter (P = U.06).
