Research was aimed to analyse the relationship of physical and mechanical soil tillage toward tractor operations. Descriptive observation using Four·wheel tractors and soit tillage implements were applied on upland area of sugarcane plantation. The result showed that variations of tillage operation in physical and mechanical properties of the soil. Soil texture of the area was sandy clay loam, i.e.: 61 .53-63.55% of sand, 24.33·28.37% of clay, and 10.10·12.12% of silt Soil cohesion and internal friction angle at 0·30 em depth were 0.12-0.57 kgflem' and 14.27-33.66)°, respectively. The change of soil dry bulk density and soil penetration resistance before and after tillage at 0-10 cm depth were decrease from 1.33-1 .56 to 0.98-1 .35 glee and from 0.94 to 0-0.02 kgflem', respectively; at 10-20 em depth from 1.27-1 .63 to 0.98- 1.55 glee and from 1.23 to 0-0.32 kgflem , respectively; and at 20-30 em depth from 1.16-1.42 to 1.07- 1.62 glee and from 1.43 to 0.71-1.05 kgflem', respectively. Whereas the change of mean weight diameter of soil bulks down to 20 em depth of Plow I - Plow II - Harrow I - Harrow II - Furrower was decreased from 1.50-1 .57 to 0.65-0.98 em. Meanwhile the Rrelationship between the decreasing soil dry bulk density (DBD) due to tillage operation was coherent with the decreasing ef mean weight diameter (MWD), by an equation of MWD; 1.97 DBD - 1.63. Sinkage of the plowing to furrowing due to machine weight pressure of 5.67-6.56 kgflem' to the ground was decreased from 7.60-8.38 to 5.99-7.16 em.
