Study of teenager quality indicators and factors affecting teenager quality
Abstract
This research was intended to analyze indicators of teenager quality and factors affecting the teenager quality (TQ). The study developed teenager quality index (TQI) and analyze the effect of TQI to their academic achievement. TQI consist of three indicators, such as body mass index (physical dimension), intelligent quotient, and emotional intelligent (non physical dimension). The study employed a cross sectional design survey involving 300 junior high school students public and private schools at five purposively selected subdistricts of Banyumas. The result indicates that about 21.0% of students considered to have a low and very low index of TQI. Meanwhile, the proportion of students, who have high index is about 7.7%. The study shows that the home and school environments as well as family monetary investment on children have a positive and significant influence on the quality of teenagers. Furthermore, the quality of students and the factors such as school condition, parent control on student time, student activity involvement, family monetary investment, year of schooling of mother, and student expectation to the teacher have significant influence on student academic achievement.
