dc.description.abstract | In information retrieval, a problem that often happens is that users face difficulty in forming queries intended to find relevant information. In addition, different vocabularies are used by authors to write the same topic leading to vocabulary gap. Query expansion is one way to overcome the problem. Query expansion is a process of adding terms or phrases to the original query to improve information retrieval performance. In this study, the term expansion is obtained from the translation of medical dictionary. Furthermore, several expansion terms are selected based on the proximity relationship with the original query. Test results show that the performance of information retrieval with query expansion using a medical dictionary gives an average precision of about 82%, and more than 95% of relevant documents can be retrieved by this system. | en |
