Abstract

The study was aimed to find out factors affecting child rearing pattern, nutritional status and intellectual ability among school aged children living in two different environment, i.e.: pesantren and in the family. The study sites were at Pesantren Kanak-Kanak Tarbiyatul Wildan Nihayatul Amal in Karawang and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al Khairiyah in North Jakarta. The data was collected from March to April 2001. Samples were 10-11 years old children who have been living in Pesantren since age of 4 or 5 years old. Data collected consisted of primary and secondary data. The primary data included socio-economic condition, care taker characteristic, child characteristic, child rearing pattern, nutritional status and intelectual ability. The secondary data included the pacilities in the Pesantren were investigated as a secondary data. Data were analized descriptively and statistically using t test, Kruskal-Wallis test, spearman corelation test and multiple linier regression test. Childs rearing pattern influenced by care taker personality and caring environment. Child's nutritional status was found to be affected by caring environment. In adittion interaction of child's care taker and caring environment was found to influence children intelectual ability.
