The objectives of this study were to identify type of self support as well as family and social supports on male patients with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), and its association with the recovery of the CHD male out-patients, who admitted to "PELNI" Hospital during 2001/2002. A cross-sectional study design and random sampling were applied to 30 recovered patients (aged 52.53 ± 6.66 years), and to 30 recovering patients (aged 52.37± 6.75 years). Secondary data were collected from the medical records and primary data were collected through an interview, which includes social activities, lifestyle, age marital status, self-support, family and social supports. Spearman's correlation, ANOVA test, multiple regression and logistic regression were used to identify factors associated with recovery process. Results of this study show that each of self-support score, family support score, and social support score for the recovering patients is higher compared to that of recovered patients. The statistical analysis also shows a positive correlation between the degree of self, family as well as social support and the CHD recovery. The study suggests the importance of self-supports, family and social care in the recovery process of the CHD male patients, given the same medical services.
