dc.description.abstract | Growth faltering at early age children still represents the unresolved problem up to now. Results of previous studies indicated that the traditional complementary food mostly consumed by children of "baduta " did not fulfill the suggested sufficiency amount, and quality. L-Glutamin was known as a source of energy ready to use for epithel channel digest, limphocyte, fibroblast and reticulcyte. Even recently it was used for the supplement offunctional food and utilized to maintain the body endurance to stay fit and healthy. This research was aimed to evaluate the addition of L-Glutamin into complementary food on protein quality, growth of malnourished rat, and its side effect on some organ. Normal rats were used for evaluating the quality of protein and malnourished rats were used to study the impact of MP-ASI (complementary food) enriched with L-Glutamin. The quality of protein of MP-ASI enriched by L-Glutamin exceeded the quality of comparator protein using 70% casein. Provision of MP-ASI enriched by L-Glutamin to malnourished rats improved the increase of body weight and exceeded the normal rat. No specific disparity was found on liver organ, kidney, brain, pancreas, small intestine and colon. MP-ASI enriched by L- Glutamine was goodfor rat with malnutrition condition and did not generate any harmful effect. | en |
