The aim of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of turmeric extract on the wound healing process in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Turmeric extract (ethyl acetate and hexane fractions) were studied for their wound-healing properties in the formulation of ointment. Sixty mice were i.p injected with 40mg/bw of sterptozotocin and divided into 4 groups; positive control (treated with commercial gel which contained neomycin sulfat 5%): diabetic group (without treatment); group III (treated with ethyl acetate fraction ointment), group IV (treated with hexane fraction ointment). The ointment of ethyl acetate and hexane fractions were given topically twice a day. Three mice from each groups were necropsied at 2nd 401 7n 14th and 21st days post incisition (pi) for gross pathology and histopathological evaluation of the injured skin. Gross examination revealed that the ethyl acetate and hexane fractions ointment groups showed better result on wound-healing process compared to the diabetic group. Microscopically, the ethyl acetate and hexane fractions ointment group showed faster neovascularization and reepithelialization compared to the diabetic group. The amount of neutrophyl infiltration revealed that the diabetic group showed more cells than ethyl acetate and hexane fractions groups, which indicated anti inflammatory activities of ethyl acetate and hexane fractions. Based on the macroscopic and microscopic observation, the ointment of ethyl acetate and hexane fractions have got properties which promotes wound healing in diabetic mice.en
