A number of initiatives from developed countries and multilateral banks to support the preparation and development of strategies on emission reduction fiom deforestation and land degradation is largely emerging. Several developed countries have already shed a substantial amount of fund to support the developing countries in REDD preparation through a bilateral agreement. This study was aimed to develop an input for Indonesia government; this input is expected to lead to an effective utilization of available opportunities related to REDD. In general, this study was conducted through (i) Synthesis of recent studies on REDD; (ii) Data analysis; (iii) Focus group discussion with related agencies. Data analysis involved the assessment on potencies, policies and funding scheme related to emission reduction and carbon sink enhancement from forestry sector and land use change. Potential carbon sink fiom afforestationlreforestation, HTI and Tree Planting Action might reach 97 G tCO2. If deforestation rate is 50% decreased form 2000-2005 value (495 million tC02) in the future, then emission reduction would decrease at about 250 million tC02 per year. By that condition, Indonesia would be able to obtain almost 2.5 billion USD per year from carbon emission reduction (note: assumed carbon price 10 usdl tC02) Indonesia government is required to prepare an integratedrobust system and strategies in utilizing available funds for capacity development and demonstration activities, so that in 2012 Indonesia is settled up and ready to implement the REDD.en
