dc.description.abstractSilages making is a solution to overcome the shortage or excessive offorages in Indonesia. The objeciive ofthis study was to evaluate the effect of rice bran as carbohydrate source and Lactobacillus plantarum IBL-2 addinon on the quality ofnapier grass (Pennisetum purpweum) silages. The concentrations ofrice bran and Lactobacillus plantarum IBL-2 addedwere0%o,lo/o, 3%o end 5 o/o (wlw) and incubated for 30 days. The results showed that the addition of l%o-SYoice bran significantly affected (P<0.05) pH value, total acid, NDF, ADF compared with controls. While timperatures, damage level, dry matter, lactic acid, colony oflactic acid bacteria, crude ash, and organii matter were not significantly affected by treatrnents. Damage level evaluated from all matrnents was quite lo*i which was not more than 2o4. Treatrnents used did not significandy affect silages quality. Therefore, rice bran addition at the lowest level ( l% (dw)) was suggested to be applied is carbohydrate source additive ifcombined with Lactobacillus plantarum lBL-2.en
