dc.description.abstract | Cornhusk is a packaging material which is easy to get, cheap and biodegradable. Generally, ccrnhusk is used as a packaging material in dry condition. The aim ofthis research are identifying its mechanical, chemical and physical properties ofdried super sweet (Zea mays var. saccharata) and pioneer (Zea mays var. Pioneer) cornhusk. The highest thickness is obtained on the outer layer ofpioneer cornhusk (0,212 mm) and the lowest thickness is inner layer of super sweet cornhusk. The outer layer ofpioneer cornhusk gave highest tensile strength which was about 344,40 kgflm1 on the direction ofits fiber and the inner layer ofsuper sweet cornhusk gave the lowest tensile strength which was about 183,92 kgflm1 on the direction of its fiber The highest elongation is obtained on the inner layer of super sweet cornhusk (21,58 %) and the lowest elongation is obtained on the outer layer of pioneer cornhusk. The water vapour transmission rate value of the super sweet cornhusk is (665,49 glmll24 hours) higher than pioneer cornhusk (570,80 g/m2/24 hours). Oxygen transmission rate and carbondioxide transmission rate are too high to determined. | id |
