The aim of this study was to evaluate the quali9 of tannin from the bark of Acacia decurrens Willd. and its utilization as a raw material for adhesive in the manufacturing ofAcacia mangium Willd. flbreboards. Ground barks of A. decurrens (40-60 mesh) was extracted with water at 60, 70, and 80 'C for 2, 3, atqi 4 hvurs. Upon evaporation of the extract, fbe total tannin content, condensed tannin centent and warer solubility of the tannin were determined. The tannin exfrad was then used as an adhesive in the preparation offlbreboards at concentrations of 0, 2,4, and 6% (based an oven-dried fiber weight). Physical properties (moisture content, density, swelling) and mechanical properties (MOE and MOR) of the prepared fibreboards were measured. The results showed that extraction of ground barks of A. decurrens at 80 'C for 3 hours gave tannin ofthe highest quality compared to that obtained with the other extraction conditions. Furfhermore, increasing the tannin-formaldehyde concentration generally improved the physical and mechanicalproperfies of theflbreboards.id
