Analysis of Tuna (Katsuwonus plamis) Purse Seine Development in the North Waters of Nangroe Aceh Darussalam
Abstract
This research was held from March to June 2001 in the north waters of Nangroe Aceh Darussalam. The objectives were (1) to identify technical factors influence the performance of tuna purse seine fishery; (2) to know the economical and financial feasibility of tuna purse seine fishery; (3) to identify steps necessary in developing the tuna purse seine fishery. Analysis of production function using Cobb-Douglas multiple lineary regression modul showed that all of the production function (F-test) significantly (Pc0.01) influenced the fish harvested. The t-test showed that the fish harvested was significantly (P<0.01) influenced by ship size, engine power, ship crrew, combination of ship size and engine power, combination of ship size and oil fuel, and combination of engine size and crew member. Analysis of harvest season showed that the season of tuna harvest in the north waters of Nangroe Aceh Darussalam was all the year with peak on April - October. Feasibility study showed that financially and economically the development of tuna purse seine fishery in the north waters of Nangroe Aceh Darussalam was feasible eventhough the production and selling-price 25% decreased and oil fuel price 65% increased. Key words: tuna purse seine, north waters of Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, feasibility study, peak harvest.
