In the areas where palm oil is grown and processed, the wastes contribute significantly to water pollution. Three possible ways of controlling the pollution are purification, utilization and land fill of Palm Oil Mill Effluents (POME). Treatment processes for POME are costly and give no financial benefit. Anaerobic digestion coupled with utilization and land fill seems to be the most promising possibilities. Anaerobic digestion technology is one of the keys to gain efficient fuel gas production. The effect of three factors on biogas production, namely temperature, inoculum concentrations and percent of dilution of POME, were studied. COD, TS, TVS degradation and biogas production were observed during the anaerobic process. The highest biogas production was achieved at 35°C and 12.5% inoculum on POME without dilution. In batch fermentation total biogas 8.4 I and a yield of 2.40 I/g. biomass were obtained. In the anaerobic process, the following kinetic parameters: growth rate of 0.06 gll.d, biogas production rate of 0.14 IIl.d were achieved at 30 days fermentation.
