Male-sterile plants are very useful for hybrid seed productions. An incompatibility between nucleus and mitochondrion could arise male sterility in plants. This phenotype was determined histologically by a defective function of the tapetal cells in the anther. The cytoplasmic male sterility phenotype is closely associated with an aberration of mitoebondrial genome. Maleaterile plants can be produced by: (i) interspecies sexual bybridization, (ii) somatic hybridization, and (ili) geaetk engineering.id
