      Abstract

Springtails are litter dwelling arthropods commonly found in forests, meadows, and shrublands, that play a vital role in the decomposition process. The conversion of natural landscape into monoculture plantations alters environmental conditions, potentially leading to declines in soil arthropods populations, especially Collembola. This study aims to analyze the impact of land-use change on abundance and composition of Collembola within the Bukit Duabelas National Park and Harapan Forest landscapes in Jambi Province. Samplings were conducted using winkler litter extraction across 124 plots (1000 m2) representing four land use types that is, forest, oil palm plantations, rubber plantations, and shrublands. A total of 3,974 individuals were identified, consisting of 3 orders, 9 families, 28 genera, and 101 morphospecies. Results indicated that abundance and species richness of Collembola did not differ significantly across the four land use types, suggesting that the available litter provides suitable microhabitats for generalist species to adapt and maintain stable populations. However, the specific community composition was significantly influenced by environmental factors, particularly leaf area index (LAI), litter carbon percentage, and the litter C:N ratio.
