      Abstract
Nisa Fadilla.

Nisa Fadilla. Introduction of Submerged Light Attractors in Gillnet Fisheries at Lake Singkarak, West Sumatra. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Gondo Puspito, M.Sc. dan Dr. Didin Komarudin, S.Pi., M.Si. Lake Singkarak is the habitat of the bilih fish (Mystacoleucus padangensis), which has high economic value. The catch yield from gillnets has declined each year. The number of operating lift net units used by fishermen in Lake Singkarak has continued to increase, while the number of gillnet units has decreased. This research aimed to compare the catch of gillnets with and without submerged light attractors and to analyze the economic viability of gillnets compared to lift nets. The method used was experimental fishing with 20 replications in Lake Singkarak. The results showed that gillnets equipped with submerged light attractors caught 3.213 fish (19.110 g), which is 68% heavier and 66% more numerous than the catch without lights (1.649 fish; 8.910 g). Bilih fish dominated the catch (91%). Economic analysis showed that gillnets with lights generated a profit of Rp18.957,00/hour with a payback period of 3.9 months, whereas lift nets only yielded a profit of Rp14.088,00/hour with a capital return period of 25.1 months.
