      Abstract

The increasing resistance of bacteria to conventional antibiotics has prompted the search for more efficient and environmentally friendly antibacterial agents. Flavonoids possess high antibacterial potential but suffer from poor solubility and stability. This study evaluates the interaction of flavonoids (quercetin, naringenin, and kaempferol) with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using Density Functional Theory (DFT). The analysis includes structure optimization, binding energy, electronic and optical properties (TDDFT), charge transfer, bond dissociation energy, and global reactivity. The results show that flavonoid-AuNPs complexes reduce the bandgap and enhance charge transfer, especially in polar solvents. Quercetin-AuNPs and Kaempferol-AuNPs complexes exhibit strong interactions and high antibacterial potential. UV-Vis analysis also supports their use in light-based applications such as photodynamic therapy. Overall, the combination of flavonoids and AuNPs shows promise as an alternative antibacterial agent.
