      Abstract

Rawa Dongkal Urban Forest is an urban forest that functions as a water catchment area, a buffer for residential neighborhoods, an animal sanctuary, a germplasm conservation collection, and a recreational/tourism vehicle. This study aims to identify bird species and abundance, describe the spatial and temporal distribution of birds, and provide recommendations for birdwatching areas and times. The research was conducted from October to December 2023. Bird data collection was conducted using the encounter rates method. The total number of bird species found was 19 species from 17 families. Areas with the highest density of bird species were located in the north and south of the Urban Forest. Some bird species can be found in all areas of the Urban Forest and some only appear in certain areas. The most effective time to get the highest bird encounter is in the morning (06.00-08.00). Some of the potential birdwatching species are the Sooty-headed Bulbul, Scarlet-headed Flowerpecker, Ornate Sunbird, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Black-naped Oriole, Eastern Spotted Dove, and Olive-backed Tailorbird.
