      Abstract

Untreated wastewater posed serious threats to the environment and public health. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Acacia mangium bark extract as a biocoagulant in the wastewater treatment process at PT Agro Apis Palacio. The extraction was performed using the Pressurized Hot Water Extraction (PHWE) method, followed by qualitative and quantitative analysis of the bioactive compounds. The first soaking phase produced the highest content of total tannins (4354 mg GAE/L) and total phenols (5156 mg GAE/L). The application of the extract to wastewater resulted in a significant reduction in pollutant parameters. The addition of 1.5 mL of extract stabilized the pH from 6.9 to 7.1 and effectively reduced TSS (from 1400 mg/L to 150 mg/L), TDS (from 2750 mg/L to 250 mg/L), nitrate (from 9.61 mg/L to 4.87 mg/L), nitrite (from 0.757 mg/L to 0.154 mg/L), ammonia (from 20.20 mg/L to 3.68 mg/L), COD (from 2080 mg/L to 765 mg/L), and BOD (from 21.10 mg/L to 16.33 mg/L). These findings indicated that Acacia mangium bark extract was effective as an environmentally friendly biocoagulant and showed potential to replace synthetic coagulants in wastewater treatment applications.
