      Abstract
Prolonged use of synthetic anthelmintics may induce the development of resistant parasites. Therefore, natural and sustainable alternatives, such as papaya leaf meal supplementation in sheep diets, are needed. This study used 15 weaned lambs with an average body weight of 12.10 ± 3.82 kg, divided into three treatments: P0 (control), P1 (10% papaya leaf meal), and P2 (Albendazole 6.7 mg/15 kg body weight). Parameters observed included fecal egg counts (FEC) and blood hematology. The results showed that both 10% papaya leaf meal and Albendazole significantly (P<0.05) reduced nematode egg counts compared to the control. Supplementation with papaya leaf meal decreased gastrointestinal worm infection and increased total leukocyte counts (WBC) as a response to post-infection recovery, but did not affect red blood cell counts (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV), or leukocyte differentiation. It can be concluded that papaya leaf meal has potential as an eco-friendly natural alternative for controlling helminth infections and improving blood hematology in weaned lambs.
