This research describes the development of a vulnerability distribution model for mangrove deforestation in Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. The study aims to build the best spatial model for mangrove deforestation vulnerability and to identify its most significant variables using a logistic regression approach. The dependent variable (deforestation/non-deforestation) was derived from a land cover change analysis using PlanetScope imagery from 2019–2024. This study shows that the best model was developed using logistic regression with the variables of distance from roads, distance from rivers, distance from the coast, distance from plantations, distance from settlements, elevation, and population density, which resulted in an Area Under the Curve (AUC) value from the ROC curve of 0,853. The model analysis identified that elevation, distance from the coast, distance from plantations, and population density are the most significant determining factors. The vulnerability of mangrove deforestation at the study site is highly influenced by steep topographic gradients and accessibility.
