      Abstract

Processing hay and oil palm fronds as feed offers a promising alternative to improve intake and nutrient digestibility in rams. This study aimed to analyze the nutrient digestibility of diets containing oil palm fronds in rams. The experiment employed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 12 rams, three treatments, and four groups. The treatments were: P0 (30% elephant grass), P1 (30% oil palm frond hay), and P2 (30% oil palm frond silage), each supplemented with 70% concentrate. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s multiple range test. The observed variables were feed intake and nutrient digestibility. Results showed no significant differences (P>0.05) in intake of dry matter, crude protein, or nitrogen-free extract among treatments, but significant differences (P<0.05) in crude fiber and ether extract intake. Only ether extract digestibility differed significantly (P<0.05), while digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, nitrogen-free extract, and total digestible nutrients did not. Thus, hay and silage from oil palm fronds did not reduce feed intake or nutrient digestibility, supporting their potential as sustainable alternative forages.
