      Abstract

Ongole grade (PO) cattle are widely raised in Indonesia as a source of beef but are susceptible to heat stress due to high tropical temperatures. This condition negatively affects their health and productivity. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different feed additives on thermoregulatory responses of PO cattle. Data were analyze using a latin square design (LSD). The treatments included: P0 (10 mL probiotic) as control, P1 (probiotic and 50 g tannin), P2 (probiotic and 50 g amino acids), and P3 (probiotic, 50 g tannin, and 50 g amino acids). The measured parameters included cattle housing microclimate, rectal temperature (Tr), respiratory rate (RR), heart rate (HR), skin surface temperature (Ts), and temperature humidity index (THI). The addition of feed additives (P1, P2, and P3) had no significant effect (P>0,05) on Tr, RR, HR, and Ts of PO cattle compared to P0. These findings indicate that probiotic supplementation and other additives did not influence the physiological responses of PO cattle.
