      Potensi Tanaman Air Spirodela polyrhiza dan Azolla pinnata untuk Fitoremediasi Logam Berat pada Limbah Cair Tambang Emas

      Abstract
      Limbah cair dari aktivitas pertambangan emas mengandung logam berat seperti Pb, Hg, dan sianida yang berbahaya bagi lingkungan ketika tidak dilakukan pengolahan limbah. Fitoremediasi merupakan salah satu metode yang digunakan dalam mengolah limbah yang menggunakan tumbuhan dalam menyerap polutan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur respon fisiologis dan pertumbuhan tanaman Spirodela polyrhiza dan Azolla pinnata yang ditumbuhkan pada media cair tambang untuk proses fitoemediasi. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan menumbuhkan S. polyrhiza dan A. pinnata pada bak plastik (28 cm×23 cm×9 cm)selama 14 hari pada media Hoagland yang mengandung limbah cair dengan konsentrasi 0, 50 dan 100%. Parameter yang diamati meliputi pH media, pertumbuhan tanaman, kandungan pigmen fotosintetik, MDA, prolin, dan serapan logam berat (Pb, Hg, sianida). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi limbah menyebabkan cekaman pada tumbuhan yang ditandai dengan penurunan pH, berat basah, berat kering, dan kandungan pigmen. Cekaman oksidatif terjadi pada kedua spesies selama mendapat perlakuan limbah cair, ditandai dengan peningkatan kadar malonialdehid dan prolin. Serapan logam Pb A. pinnata lebih tinggi dibanding S. polyrhiza, sedangkan serapan logam Hg S. polyrhiza lebih tinggi dibanding A. pinnata. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, kedua tanaman memiliki potensi sebagai agen fitoremediasi limbah cair yang tercemar logam berat.
       
      Liquid waste from gold mining contains heavy metals and chemicals such as Pb, Hg, and cyanide, which are harmful to the environment if untreated. Phytoremediation, which utilizes aquatic plants to absorb, accumulate, and detoxify pollutants, offers a promising and eco-friendly solution. This study aimed to examine the growth and physiological responses of Spirodela polyrhiza and Azolla pinnata when exposed to gold mine wastewater. Plants were cultivated in plastic containers (28 cm×23 cm×9 cm) for 14 days using Hoagland medium with liquid waste concentrations of 0, 50, and 100%. Each container was equipped with an aerator to maintain adequate oxygen supply. Observed parameters included media pH, plant growth, photosynthetic pigment content, malondialdehyde (MDA), proline levels, and heavy metal uptake (Pb, Hg, cyanide). Increasing waste concentrations induced stress, evidenced by decreased fresh and dry weight, along with reduced pigment content. Oxidative stress was indicated by elevated MDA and proline levels in both species. A. pinnata showed higher Pb uptake than S. polyrhiza, while S. polyrhiza had greater Hg uptake. Cyanide accumulation was relatively low in both species. These findings suggest that both aquatic plants possess significant potential as phytoremediation agents for treating gold mining wastewater contaminated with toxic heavy metals.
