      Abstract
      Target strength (TS) merupakan ukuran hambur balik akustik yang menggambarkan ukuran ikan, sedangkan densitas ikan adalah indikator penting dalam menilai kondisi ekosistem perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan pola distribusi TS dan densitas ikan di Atol Kapota, Perairan Wakatobi, menggunakan teknologi hidroakustik Single Beam Echosounder Simrad EK-15. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai TS berkisar antara -51,8 dB hingga -37,6 dB, dengan rata-rata -42,5 dB, yang cenderung meningkat di kedalaman, mengindikasikan keberadaan ikan berukuran besar. Hasil spasial distribusi densitas ikan bervariasi secara signifikan, baik horizontal maupun vertikal. Konsentrasi densitas tertinggi terdeteksi pada kedalaman 21-25 meter dengan nilai maksimum 45.602 individu/1000m³ dan nilai minimum 2 individu/1000m³. Rata-rata densitas ikan sebesar 514 individu/1000m³ menunjukkan daya dukung lingkungan yang baik. Wilayah laguna atol cenderung menjadi pusat agregasi ikan karena habitat yang lebih kompleks, sedangkan pada kedalaman lebih dari 33 meter terjadi penurunan densitas yang signifikan. Hubungan negatif antara target strength (TS) dan densitas ikan menunjukkan bahwa ikan berukuran besar (TS tinggi) cenderung tersebar di lapisan lebih dalam dengan jumlah individu lebih sedikit. Hasil penelitian ini menjadi dasar ilmiah bagi pengelolaan perikanan berkelanjutan di Atol Kapota.
       
      Target strength (TS) is an acoustic backscatter measurement that reflects fish size, while fish density is an important indicator for assessing the condition of aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to describe the distribution patterns of TS and fish density in Kapota Atoll, Wakatobi Waters, using hydroacoustic technology with a Single Beam Echosounder Simrad EK-15. The results showed that TS values ranged from -51.8 dB to -37.6 dB, with an average of -42.5 dB, and tended to increase with depth, indicating the presence of larger fish. Spatial distribution of fish density varied significantly both horizontally and vertically. The highest density was detected at depths of 21–25 meters, with a maximum of 45,602 individuals/1000 m³ and a minimum of 2 individuals/1000 m³. The average density of 514 individuals/1000 m³ reflects good environmental carrying capacity. The lagoon area of the atoll tended to be a center of fish aggregation due to its more complex habitat, while depths beyond 33 meters showed a significant decrease in density. The negative relationship between TS and fish density indicates that larger fish (higher TS) are more commonly found in deeper layers, but in fewer numbers. These findings provide a scientific basis for sustainable fisheries management in Kapota Atoll.
