      Abstract

Land cover change from forest to built-up areas reduces the ecosystem’s capacity to store carbon. This study aimed to estimate biomass and carbon stock across six land cover classes: old shrubland, forest plantation, dryland agriculture, mixed dryland agriculture, shrubland, and rice field. Sampling was conducted using the stratified systematic plot sampling with random start method, with 27 plots distributed among the six land cover classes. Data collected from each sample plot included understory samples to determine biomass from dry weight values. In addition, vegetation diameter and height data were used to calculate biomass using allometric models and carbon conversion factors. The results showed that mixed dryland agriculture had the highest carbon stock at 90.91 ton/ha, followed by forest plantation (63.58 ton/ha), old shrubland (23.30 ton/ha), dryland agriculture (7.00 ton/ha), shrubland (3.83 ton/ha), and rice field (1.22 ton/ha). The total carbon stock within the 58.18 ha study area reached 2,582.59 tons, with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 1,648.06 to 3,517.13 tons and a sampling error of 36.19%.
