      Abstract

Karawang Regency, particularly the coastal area of Cilamaya, has significantly mangrove ecotourism potential but is vulnerable to land cover changes and climate dynamics. This study examines how changes in mangrove land cover and the level of climate-based tourism comfort are affected using the Holiday Climate Index (HCI). Landsat 5 imagery data from 2001 and Landsat 8 imagery from 2020 were classified using the Random Forest method. The results show that mangrove area decreased drastically from 767.41 ha (28%) in 2001 to 346.67 ha (13%) in 2020, with a loss of 420.74 ha, or approximately 22.14 ha (2,89%) per year. The average HCI value in 2001 of 68.75 indicates a higher level of comfort compared to 65.08 in 2020, especially during months with low rainfall intensity in the Cilamaya area (June, July, August, and September). The analysis shows that the degradation of mangrove cover has a significant impact on the tourism comfort rating based on the HCI score. These results emphasize the importance of mangrove conservation to support the sustainability of climatically comfortable coastal tourism.
