dc.description.abstractAir limbah peternakan sapi mengandung bahan organik tinggi seperti amonia yang akan mencemari lingkungan apabila tidak dikelola dengan baik. Pencemaran lingkungan yang disebabkan oleh air limbah peternakan sapi terjadi karena air limbah langsung dibuang ke saluran drainase tanpa pengolahan terlebih dahulu. Salah satu cara pengolahan air limbah peternakan menggunakan sistem Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands (HSSF) dan pemanfaatan tanaman Cyperus alternifolius. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendesain prototipe sistem Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands yang efektif untuk pengolahan air limbah peternakan sapi dan menilai kemampuan tanaman Cyperus alternifolius dalam mereduksi konsentrasi amonia pada air limbah peternakan sapi. Metode yang digunakan yaitu percobaan langsung pengolahan air limbah menggunakan prototipe sistem Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands (HSSF) selama 5 hari secara berkala. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa waktu tinggal pada sistem menggunakan tanaman Cyperus alternifolius efektif dalam mereduksi konsentrasi amonia hingga 90,81% sehingga sistem Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands (HSSF) dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif dalam pengolahan air limbah peternakan sapi.
dc.description.abstractCattle farm wastewater contains high organic matter, such as ammonia, which will pollute the environment if not managed properly. Environmental pollution caused by cattle farm wastewater occurs because the wastewater is directly discharged into the drainage channel without prior treatment. One way to treat livestock wastewater is to use the Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands (HSSF) system and Cyperus alternifolius plants. This study aims to design a prototype of an effective Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands system for cattle farm wastewater treatment and to assess the effectiveness of Cyperus alternifolius plants in reducing ammonia levels in cattle farm wastewater. The method used is a direct experiment of wastewater treatment using the Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands (HSSF) system prototype for 5 days, periodically. The results showed that the residence time in the system using Cyperus alternifolius plants was effective in reducing ammonia concentrations by up to 90.81% so that the Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetlands (HSSF) system can be used as an alternative in cattle farm wastewater treatment.
