      Abstract

The decline in green open spaces has driven the adoption of green roofs as a building-based water conservation solution. However, runoff from green roofs is often polluted by planting media, making it unsuitable for reuse. This study examines the effect of an ultrafine bubble generator on improving the quality of green roof runoff, with aeration durations of 30, 45, and 60 minutes. Four models were tested: without vegetation, and with ornamental peanut, moss rose, and water spinach. Water quality was assessed using the STORET method, referring to Indonesian standards (Permenkes No. 2/2023 and PP No. 22/2021). Results show significant improvements in COD, TDS, nitrite, ammonia, DO, and pH levels. Water quality status improved from heavily polluted (STORET -46) to lightly polluted (STORET -5) after 60 minutes. A 45-minute aeration was sufficient for most plants, except moss rose, which required 60 minutes. The study highlights the potential of ultrafine bubble technology as a pre-treatment for green roof runoff.
