      Abstract

Ethnobotany studies the relationship between humans and plants and their use in life, including as traditional medicine. Modernization has led to a decrease in knowledge about medicinal plants, especially in the Sundanese Kasepuhan community who still maintain ancestral traditions. This study aims to identify the knowledge and utilization of medicinal plants by the Sundanese Kasepuhan community and identify the potential of medicinal plants found in Girijaya village, Sukabumi district. Methods used include literature studies, interviews, field observations, and exploration. The results showed that 60 species of medicinal plants from 30 families were utilized, dominated by the Zingiberaceae family. Potential plants identified as having medicinal benefits were obtained as many as 17 species. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is the plant most trusted by the community as a medicine to relieve gastric diseases. Species with high information exchange between communities, namely babadotan (Ageratum conyzoide) species for the external wound disease group. The utilization of medicinal plant species and knowledge related to medicinal plants mostly comes from families for generations. The potential of medicinal plants has not been utilized by the Sundanese community of Kasepuhan Girijaya.
