      Abstract

The Community’s Livestock School (SPR) is a collaborative program by IPB University, PT Great Giant Livestock, and the Central Lampung Government to improve cattle productivity and farmer welfare. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and species of gastrointestinal nematodes in beef cattle at SPR Berkah Ternak Bersama, Central Lampung. A total of 54 fecal samples were examined using the flotation and McMaster methods, followed by larval culture and chi-square analysis to identify risk factors associated with the infection. The infection prevalence was 50%, dominated by Strongyle-type eggs, with one case of mixed Strongyle–Trichuris infection. The geometric mean EPG was 100.55 for Strongyle (light) and 250 for the mixed case (moderate). Infective larvae identified were Haemonchus spp. Statistical analysis showed significant associations between infection and age group (p = 0.025) and feed type (p = 0.014), with the highest prevalence observed in calves and cattle fed solely on forages. These findings underscore the importance of age-specific management and appropriate feeding strategies in controlling gastrointestinal nematodes in intensively managed beef cattle.
