      Abstract

Organic and inorganic waste have distinct characteristics that require specific management approaches. This study aims to compare the effectiveness and sustainability of waste management in organic and inorganic waste banks in Bogor City, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with waste bank members, covering institutional, financial, operational, social, economic, and environmental aspects. The results show that organic waste management focuses on biological processes such as composting and maggot cultivation, while inorganic waste management relies on sorting and the market value of recyclable materials. The sustainability of organic waste banks is influenced by technical capacity and continuous waste input, whereas inorganic waste banks depend on volume and market price stability. Waste sorting behavior among residents significantly affects both systems, and improving sustainability requires education and cross-sector collaboration.
