      Abstract

Laboratory effluent from residual analysis is known to contain heavy metals such as Ag, Hg, Cr, and Fe in amounts that exceed the quality criteria established by Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. As a result, the goal of this research was to treat wastewater with precipitation and adsorption methods in order to minimize heavy metal concentrations before it was discharged into the environment. Precipitatiheon at pH 9 significantly decreased metal concentrations with efficiencies ranging from 85 to 99%, but Ag and Hg levels remained beyond permitted limits. Adsorption was also carried out using activated carbon treated with KOH, with stirring times ranging from 30 to 90 minutes. The results revealed that the Ag concentration reduced from 1,634 to 0,281 mg/L, which was within the quality standard range. However, the Hg concentration still exceeded the standard limit, reaching 0,0335 mg/L after 90 minutes of optimal stirring.
