      Karakterisasi Perekat Poliuretan dengan Poliol Berbasis Gliserol

      Abstract
      Glycerol has potential as a bio-polyol raw material and acts as a source of hydroxyl (OH) groups due to its abundant and renewable availability. However, the use of glycerol is not yet optimal as an adhesive, so esterification with citric acid is needed to extend its carbon chain. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the molar ratio of glycerol to citric acid on the esterification process and to investigate the influence of the NCO/OH ratio on the characteristics of polyurethane adhesives. A high molar ratio of glycerol to citric acid enhances the water resistance of polyurethane adhesives. However, the resulting gelation time is short, and the adhesive pH is low. The higher the NCO/OH ratio, the higher the viscosity and water resistance. Functional group analysis indicates that urethane bonds have formed in the formulation of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) with citric acid glycerol. Therefore, citric acid glycerol has the potential to become an environmentally friendly polyurethane adhesive.
       
      Gliserol berpotensi sebagai bahan baku bio-poliol dan berperan sebagai sumber gugus hidroksil (OH) karena ketersediaannya melimpah serta terbarukan. Namun, penggunaan gliserol belum cukup optimal sebagai perekat sehingga perlu dilakukan proses esterifikasi dengan asam sitrat untuk memperpanjang rantai karbonnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh rasio molar gliserol dengan asam sitrat pada proses esterifikasi serta mengetahui pengaruh rasio NCO/OH terhadap karakteristik perekat poliuretan. Rasio molar gliserol dan asam sitrat yang tinggi meningkatkan resistansi perekat poliuretan terhadap air. Namun, waktu gelatinasi yang dihasilkan singkat dan pH perekat rendah. Semakin tinggi rasio NCO/OH semakin tinggi pula nilai viskositas, dan resistansinya terhadap air. Analisis gugus fungsi menunjukkan ikatan uretan telah terbentuk pada formulasi methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) dengan gliserol sitrat. Oleh karena itu, gliserol sitrat berpotensi menjadi perekat poliuretan yang ramah lingkungan.
