      Abstract

Sphex argentatus, or the digger wasp, serves as both a predator and pollinator beneficial to agriculture. However, its presence in aesthetically significant areas like golf courses can be disruptive due to its nesting behavior, which involves creating holes for egg-laying that mar the green and disrupt gameplay. This study aimed to observe S. argentatus behavior and the disturbances it causes at the Sentul Highlands golf course in Bogor, West Java, using observational methods over ten days across two pre-identified holes. Observations revealed that female S. argentatus primarily dug holes, occasionally leaving to forage for food for their larvae. In contrast, males did not create holes but continuously searched the area for mating opportunities. The holes dug by females measured approximately 11-36 cm deep. The longest observed activity involved females hunting grasshoppers to provision their nests, lasting between 9 to 178.5 minutes. This study highlights the ecological role of S. argentatus while addressing its impact on golf course aesthetics and functionality.
