      Abstract

Cattle fattening activities at the IPB Vocational School generate wastewater with a notably high ammonia concentration. Wastewater that has not been optimally treated is discharged directly into the drainage system, causing odor problems and threatening the surrounding environment. The oxidation pond, a form of biological wastewater treatment, offers a practical and environmentally sustainable solution by utilizing microbial processes under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions to reduce ammonia levels. This study aimed to design a prototype oxidation pond to serve as a treatment system for wastewater produced by the cattle fattening unit of the IPB Vocational School and to evaluate its performance in reducing ammonia levels. To determine its effectiveness, the experimental approach involved operating the oxidation pond prototype under 15 different treatment time variations. The highest NH3-N removal efficiency reached 49.64%, reducing the concentration to 35.82 mg/L. During optimal operation, supporting parameters included a dissolved oxygen (DO) level of 4.5 mg/L, a pH of 7.0, and a total dissolved solids (TDS) concentration of 418 ppm.
