      Abstract

Goldfish (Carassius auratus) is a popular ornamental fish known for its diverse coloration and patterns. One of the major concerns in goldfish aquaculture is parasitic infection. This study aimed to identify the parasite genera and determine the degree of infection in goldfish obtained from local fish sellers in Bogor. Fish samples were collected from three ornamental fish vendors across three different locations in Bogor, with a total of 15 fish examined. Mucussamples from the scales, fins, tail, and gills were collected using toothpicks and subsequently examined under a microscope for morphological identification. The identification results revealed the presence of seven parasite genera: Ichthyophthirius sp., Trichodina sp., Gyrodactylus sp., Dactylogyrus sp., Argulus sp., Lernaea sp., and Myxobolus sp.. The highest degree of infection reaching 40% was observed in Trichodina sp. and Gyrodactylus sp., with a predilection found on the scales. Infection by Myxobolus sp. was characterized by the formation of plasmodia containing myxospores in the gills, which may lead to severe tissue damage. Morphological identification of parasites serves as an early detection method to prevent the further spread of parasites in aquaculture environments.
