      Abstract

Palabuharatu Bay is a highly productive pelagic fishing area in West Java. The main species of fish caught in the bay is the skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis). Variability in oceanographic parameters influences the presence and distribution of fish. This study aims to identify and analyze the relationship between oceanographic factors, such as Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentration, and the spatial distribution and abundance of skipjack tuna in the bay. This study uses monthly data from 2019 to 2023. Chlorophyll-a imagery data with a spatial resolution of 4 km were obtained from the Copernicus Marine website and processed using Jupyter Notebook software. SST imagery data with a spatial resolution of 4 km was obtained from the Ocean Color website and processed using the Inverse Distance Weight (IDW) interpolation method. Wind data with a spatial resolution of 0.25° x 0.25° was obtained from the Marine Copernicus website and processed using Ocean Data View (ODV) software. Fish catch data were obtained from the Palabuhanratu Fisheries Port Authority and analyzed using cross-correlation with SPL and chlorophyll-a concentrations. From 2019 to 2023, the average variability of SPL ranged from 24.25 to 30.82 °C, while the average chlorophyll-a concentration ranged from 0.156 to 1.685 mg/m³. The average wind speed was 3.54 m/s in the west season and 6.78 m/s in the east season. The cross-correlation between SST and skipjack tuna catch is negative, with the highest correlation occurring at lag 0, while the correlation between chlorophyll-a concentration and skipjack tuna catch is positive, with the highest correlation occurring at lag 0.
