      Abstract

The rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) is a protected species valued for its bright plumage and tame behavior. High demand has led to exploitation from the wild, making captive breeding efforts essential for its conservation. This study aimed to analyze feed palatability, identify daily behavioral patterns, and examine height and feeder type preferences in rainbow lorikeets kept at the BRIN captive facility in Cibinong, Bogor. Observations were conducted over 20 days on 14 individuals using the cafetaria feeding method and scan sampling. The results showed an average feed consumption of 163,8 g/bird/day, with the highest palatability observed for palm sugar water, sweet corn, and cucumber. The highest activity occurred in the morning, primarily feeding and chattering, while resting and preening were more frequent in the afternoon. The lorikeets showed a significant preference for feeders placed at heights of 2–2.5 meters and for cup-shaped feeders. These findings can serve as a basis for improved management in captive breeding of rainbow lorikeets.
