      Abstract

Pari Island features a complex intertidal ecosystem characterized by substrate types and environmental dynamics. This research aims to analyze intertidal fauna’s diversity, composition, and habitats to support sustainable conservation efforts in the marine protected area in Pari Island, part of the Seribu Islands. Sampling was conducted from May to October 2024 at three observation stations. The quadrat transect method collected data on intertidal fauna and seagrass density. We assessed substrate types visually and measured physical-chemical water quality at each station. During the study periode, we collected 38 species, representing 29 families and 6 classes. Family Cerithiidae has the highest species abundance, while Holothuriidae has the lowest abundance. The results from the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’), the evenness index (E), and the dominance index (C) indicated a low to moderate level of intertidal fauna diversity. The seagrass species identified included Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea serrulata, Cymodocea rotundata, and Halophila ovalis. The substrate types in the research area comprised sandy mud, sand, gravel, rubble (coral fragments), and boulders. The Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) biplot results suggested that intertidal fauna tend to be associated with favorable water quality conditions and high seagrass density. Public education and awareness are crucial to preserving the intertidal zone and its associated flora and fauna, which are vital for conserving marine resources.
