      Abstract

The Javan banteng is one of the species of even-toed ungulates that is currently threatened with extinction. Body temperature is a key indicator in determining the health status of an animal. Measuring the body temperature of the Javan banteng is challenging when done via the rectal route. Infrared thermal cameras can assist in body temperature measurement as they offer a non-invasive and rapid application. This study was conducted to determine the distribution patterns of surface body temperature in the Javan banteng using thermal imaging, focusing on the eye region, thorax, forelimbs, hindlimbs, and flank. A one-way ANOVA test was performed to compare surface temperature values across different regions in the morning and afternoon. The temperature humidity index (THI) was also measured to assess environmental temperature values during image capture as an indicator of factors contributing to temperature increases in the Javan banteng. The difference in data collection times between morning and afternoon showed significant variations (p<0.05). However, comparisons of surface temperatures among individual banteng or across different days did not show significant differences (p>0.05). The ideal surface body temperature region for estimating the core temperature of the Javan banteng is the eye region
