      Abstract

Biawak Island is part of the Marine Conservation Area of Indramayu Regency, which holds significant coral reef potential to be developed as a sustainable dive ecotourism destination. This study was conducted from August to December 2024 in the marine conservation area of Biawak Island, Indramayu, West Java. The data used consisted of both primary and secondary sources. The objectives of this research were to assess dive tourism suitability, calculate the carrying capacity of the area, and formulate sustainable management strategies. The findings show that the coral reef ecosystem in Biawak Island remains in good condition, with live coral cover reaching 87% and high diversity of lifeforms and reef fish species. The suitability analysis identified four main diving areas with a total carrying capacity of 642 visitors per day. The proposed management strategies focus on the development of conservation-based tourism, the empowerment of coastal communities in ecotourism management, and the improvement of accessibility to Biawak Island.
