      Abstract

Somatic cell count is used as an indicator of udder health and the occurance of subclinical mastitis, while total plate count reflects the level of microbial contamination, which indicates hygiene sanitation during milking and milk handling processes. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between somatic cell count and total plate count in milk from dairy cows on farms in West Java Province. A total of 576 quarter samples were tested using the Breed method for somatic cell count and the plate count method for total plate count. Data was analyzed using SPSS software. The results showed that the average somatic cell count of 1.983.444 ± 6.334.972 cell/mL and total plate count of 133.497 ± 580.933 CFU/mL. Correlation analysis indicated no significant relationship between somatic cell count and total plate count (r = -0.037; p > 0.05). These findings suggest that somatic cell count and total plate count does not influence each other, but they are influenced by different factors and should be evaluated separately in milk quality research
