Keanekaragaman Hayati Sekitar Kita – Parijoto (Medinilla speciosa)
Abstract
This article introduces species that exist around us and their potential or actual utilisation by humans. One type of plant that can be utilised is Parijoto (Medinilla speciosa). Believed by the Javanese people as a legacy plant of Sunan Muria, found growing wild on mountain slopes or in forests on high humus soil (very fertile soil) and on humid mountain slopes. It has been widely cultivated by the community as an ornamental plant because of its beauty, so it is recognised as one of the most beautiful forest plant genera in the world. Active compounds in parijoto, such as flavonoids act as inhibitors of cancer cell growth, saponins as antitumors, while tannins act as antibacterials. Other benefits of flavonoid content include inhibiting the spread of tumours and inhibiting enzyme activity, which is a trigger for inflammation and diseases of the immune system. Has pharmacological activity such as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidiabetic and anticancer. Parijoto (Medinilla speciosa) can be used to treat canker sores, inflammation, diarrhea, cholesterol, increase hormonal fertility, etc.
