      Abstract

The high crime rate in Indonesia reflects underlying socio-economic issues such as poverty, inequality, and limited access to education. This study aims to analyze the influence of socio-economic factors on crime levels across 34 provinces in Indonesia during the period 2015–2024 using the Random Effect Model (REM). The independent variables include poverty, education, unemployment rate, economic growth, and income (represented by the provincial minimum wage). The results show that poverty, education, and economic growth have a positive and statistically significant effect on crime at the 5% level, while income has a negative effect that is significant at the 10% level. In contrast, the unemployment rate shows no significant impact. These findings suggest that economic pressure and education without character development may contribute to higher crime rates. Therefore, crime prevention policies should be integrated with efforts to improve social welfare, expand access to quality education, and promote equitable economic development.
