      Abstract

Eastern little tuna is a highly valuable fish and a primary target for fishing. Intensive fishing activities can lead to overfishing, causing a decline in eastern little tuna stock. This study aims to assess the stock status of eastern little tuna (Euthynnus affinis) in the southern waters of Java, based on catch data from PPP Pondokdadap, Sendang Biru, Malang, East Java. Conducted from December 2023 to April 2024, the study analyzed 547 samples. The research results show that female eastern little tuna are more dominant than male eastern little tuna, with a positive allometric growth pattern. The estimated L8 and K values were 430,2 mm and 0,41/month for males and 381,25 mm and 0,52/month for females. The first capture size (Lc) was 240,92 mm for males and 181,51 mm for females, while the first gonadal maturity size (Lm) was 311,43 mm (males) and 291,70 mm (females), respectively indicating Lc < Lm. The exploitation rate (E) was 0,87 for males and 0,81 for females. The BMSY values of 16,74% (males) and 20,97% (females) indicated recruitment overfishing. Overall, the eastern little tuna stock in the southern waters of Java, landed at PPP Pondokdadap, Sendang Biru, has experienced overfishing.
