      Abstract

Feed is the main factor in mud crab farming to achieve optimal growth. Natural feeds such as groundfish are often used because they are economical, but have limitations in availability and quality. Artificial feed with a balanced nutritional composition was developed as an alternative to improve the efficiency of aquaculture. The initial weight of the crab used was 82,71±0,53 g. This study used a randomized complete block design (CRD) with four treatments, namely raw fish/control (K), artificial feed supplemented with different calcium sources, viz: crab shell (CK), shrimp head (KU), and eggshell (CT). Parameters observed included molting percentage, final weight, average weight growth (PBR), specific growth rate (SPR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency (EP), and survival rate (SR). The results showed that the CK treatment gave the best growth with a final weight of 120±3,52 g, PBR 1,29±0,13 g day-1, LPS 1,28±0,11% day-1 significantly different from the control (P<0.05), the lowest RKP (2,42±0,13), as well as the highest EP (41,47±2,37%) which showed the best feed efficiency. SR in all treatments was 100%. The conclusion of this study is that artificial feed with crab shell calcium source as the best alternative can improve the growth performance of mud crabs.
