      Abstract

Inaccuracy of fishing grounds information results in low effectiveness and efficiency of fishing operations conducted by fishermen. This study aims to map the distribution of skipjack tuna fishing ground categories in the southern waters of Java. A spatio-temporal analysis was used to map the fishing grounds with the assistance of mapping software. The study results indicate that sea surface temperature distribution during the west monsoon and transition season I tends to be warmer than during the east monsoon and transition season II, with SPL ranging between 27.50°C-31.50°C. The chlorophyll-a distribution pattern during the west monsoon and transition season I is relatively more homogeneous than in the east monsoon and transition season II with a dominant chlorophyll-a range of approximately 0.05 mg/m³-0.15 mg/m³. The highest intensity of skipjack tuna fishing occurred during transition season I in zone Z3, while the lowest occurred during the west monsoon in zone Z1. The highest number of potential skipjack tuna fishing grounds was found during transition season I, with three areas, whereas the fewest were observed during transition season II, with only one area.
